  2. Second layer — slope interruption: Capture silt on slopes before it reaches the perimeter, using horizontal silt sock rows, check dams, or terracing
  3. Third layer — perimeter control: Stop any remaining silt from leaving the site using silt socks or silt fences at the downgradient boundary
  4. Fourth layer — inlet protection: Protect every storm drain that could receive runoff from the disturbed area
