Pyramat - Turf Reinforcement Mats
Pyramat is a turf reinforcement mat that is used for permanent erosion control on steep slopes, banks and vegetated waterways. Pyramats are made from woven polypropylene geotextile that is configured into pyramid-like projections. These TRMS have a high interlock and reinforcement capacity that helps stabilize soil and promote vegetation.

FAQ
PYRAMAT - HIGH-PERFORMANCE TURF REINFORCEMENT MATS
This is a three-dimensional woven polypropylene geotextile. It's designed with patented X3® Fiber Technology. It's specifically engineered for superior erosion control on steep slopes and vegetated waterways. This mat offers the highest specification requirements for protection from erosion on slopes, banks, and channels. It is also the only High-Performance Turf Reinforcement Mat to have a verified carbon footprint by an independent third-party. From beginning to end, the carbon footprint of 1m2 of the 75 HPTRM is 2.7 kgCO2e is equivalent to driving 7 miles.
- Offers superior UV resistance for life up to 75 years.
- It's recognized by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) along with the Federal Highway Administration as the Best Management Practice to improve water quality.
- Considered the Best Management Practice to improve the quality of water. The tensile strength is 3,000 lbs/ft to meet EPA standards.
- The patented trilobal X3® Fiber Technology helps to lock in seeds and promote fast root mass development.
- Increases the infiltration of surface water.
- Resists both hydraulic and non-hydraulic stress.
- It's an environmentally-friendly solution for improving groundwater quality while protecting wildlife.
- Verified small carbon footprints.

Applications For:
- Steepened Slopes
- Stormwater Channels
- Vegetated Channels and Waterways
- Detention Ponds
- Landfill Erosion Control
- Arid and Semi-Arid Environment Soil Protection
The Summary Of A Project:
The city needed a solution for permanent protection for an eroding roadway drainage channel fronting the commercial developments along Bell Road in Scottsdale, AZ. Rip rap and concrete were the most unpopular choices and went beyond the city's budget. Propex worked with Gannett Fleming using the 75 TRM instead to reinforce the native vegetation and provide a UV stabilized, the permanent lining is able to withstand heavy flows from their desert monsoons.
Highlights of the Pyramat 25:
The 25 Turf Reinforcement model is a three-dimensional, woven polypropylene geotextile which is designed with the patented X3® Fiber Technology. What is the Difference Between Engineered Plastic and Single-Use Plastic?
Engineered plastic, like these mats, are stabilized to prevent deterioration and to withstand UV and other environmental exposures. Single-use plastics are not stabilized and will start to break down immediately.
How Long Will PROPEX's Last?
HPTRMs or High-Performance Turf Reinforcement Mats are created plastics that are developed to last a long time or even permanently. The 75 has a lifespan of 75 years when exposed to UV rays. On the other hand, if it is covered with vegetation, it's functional longevity can last a much longer period of time.
Do Engineered Plastics Drain When Exposed To Water?
Our Propex erosion control products are made from polypropylene which contains no leachable components unlike single-use plastic made from various non-stabilized polymers that will break down into microplastics and drain harmful chemicals. The EPA has identified High-Performance Turf Reinforcement Mats, like these, are the Best Management Practice for improving the quality of water because it promotes infiltration of water back into the ground table and filters out sediments and pollutants.
How Does the Manufacturing of PROPEX Impact The Environment?
In Ringgold, GA, our facility is ISO 14001 certified. The international certification recognizes that this product is actively measuring the environmental impact and is constantly looking for ways to improve its process. We continually improve this product by repalletizing former extruded polypropylene so it can be recycled into a new product and by installing motion sensor lights in the plant to decrease energy consumption.
